How to Volunteer

We Welcome Volunteers

Volunteers are the backbone of Balmoral Sailing Club (BSC or "the Club"). So, whether you’re a sailor or just inspired to be a member and help out at our sailing club keep reading and see how you can participate.

Volunteering Opportunities

  • Administration
  • Marketing and publicity
  • Purchasing canteen supplies
  • Social events calendar organisation
  • Overseeing / organising the repairs and maintenance of the clubhouse
  • Overseeing / organising the repairs and maintenance of the power boats
  • Race management (Race Officer, Race Officer assistants and Safety Boat officials)
  • Buddy / mentor to new sailors

Volunteer Requirements

As a volunteer you must have a desire and the ability to be involved with on-water related activities including sailing and/or the management or governance of those activities.

As a volunteer you must be willing to become a member of the Club, adhere to the Code of Conduct of BSC and be governed by the Vision Statement, Core Values and various regulations which are in place and published on the website.

Race management usually requires going on-water in a power boat and, as sailing continues in various and often adverse weather conditions, it is assumed and expected that volunteers in this area will have an adequate level of fitness, agility and endurance.

Volunteers in the area of race management are encouraged to attend occasional relevant courses in order to maintain a good standard of Club Race Management and also to hold a First Aid Certificate. The club will offer or provide all necessary training.

All Power Boat volunteers are required to obtain a Working With Children Number. Click here to apply online for a Working With Children Check.

Crewing Opportunities

NB: If you'd like the opportunity to crew on a sailing boat (not a power boat) at Balmoral Sailing Club please go to Sailing > Crew Register and register your details.

While you are waiting to get a crewing spot why not go out on the power boats and see how the Club operates from the water. You'll also be able to meet the sailors and volunteers and their families and friends in the clubhouse at the pre-race briefings and for some post-race socialising!
